Hummingbird

Hummingbirds were an important element in precolombine societies, mainly as a symbol of love and strength. The Aztec god Huitzilopochtli is often depicted as a hummingbird. His name means 'Blue Humming Bird on the Left'. Xochiquetzal, the goddess of love, was often represented surrounded by quetzals and hummingbirds. Hummingbirds were included as an ingredient in many Mexican love spells: to cure love sickness, attract and retain love and even fulfil an impossible love. In the past, stuffed hummingbirds were prepared with special herbs and oils as amulets that people could wear under clothing. The feathers had to be in contact with the heart or erogenous zones.

This ring represents the feathers of the hummingbird; the coarse silver, its strength. In the troubled and violent world we live in, it is important to keep strength and faith in love.
