Religious images and iconography showing suffering and pain are a constant throughout my work, raising a serial of questions that confront me with my religious upbringing. The prehispanic indigenous traditions and the religious history of Mexico inspire me to give shape to my ideas and emotions.

"Eternas Penitencias" is a tapestry of silver and human bones representing the devotion and pain of the pilgrims crawling on their knees to the sanctuary of the Mexican dark-skinned Virgen de Guadalupe. In a deep act of faith, the pilgrims pay for a favour or show repent in a procession that leaves them exhausted and wounded. The bones represent the physical devotion of the faithful and refer to the relics and exvotos offered at the Virgin’s altar. The repetitive and circular pattern of the necklace shows the cyclic and collective movement of people that share belief, suffering and hope.
