Kouichi Okamoto wanted to make a global lamp which is simple and has minimum functions. And for that, he had to come up with a battery that doesn't need domestic electrical power. He got the hint from Japanese lamp called "CHOCHIN", which is a portable lamp with a candle from the EDO period. In the Ballon Lamp, the flame changes to the LED; the candle changes to lithium cell and paper shade changes to a rubber balloon.
